Announcing Your Pregnancy

Telling people you are pregnant can be a joyous occasion. You will probably want to tell your closest family first. Your husband might already suspect that you are pregnant from your symptoms.

Common signs of being pregnant include:

  • Morning sickness
  • Swelled breasts
  • Missed period
  • Feeling exhausted
  • Positive pregnancy test

Some women have even reported being clumsier and more accident prone.

Please contact your health care provider if you have any questions or concerns.

If you are like us, we have a hard time keeping anything from our husbands, especially something as exciting as being pregnant!! Some women really like to make it a special memory, and some keep it more casual. Here are some ideas on how you can tell your husband you are pregnant-

  • take him to a special place and have a picnic(a waterfall, or a hike, etc)
  • make him a card
  • send him balloons and candy at his work
  • leave little messages around the house that say things like "I love you, Daddy" "Nine more months" "Bun in the oven"
  • serve baby foods for dinner, like baby peas, baby carrots, etc.

If there is anything that we can't stress enough, it is that guys can sometimes be clueless and a lot of times they don't get "a hint." You might just have to blurt it out rather than dropping little cues.

Some women prefer to wait until they are out of their first trimester to tell anyone besides their husband that they are pregnant so that they know the baby's health is progressing normally. Some women like to tell everyone as soon as they know they are pregnant. It is really a personal choice.

Here are some fun ways to share the good news with family and friends:

  • wear a shirt that says "Eating for two" or "bun in the oven" or "pregnant"
  • send flowers and a note saying "We love ____" and fill in the blank with the respective new title - grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, etc.
  • take everyone out to dinner and tell them in person
  • if you already have a son or daughter, have them wear a shirt that says "future big brother" or "future big sister."
  • Print off several copies of the ultrasound scan and mail them as postcards to family and friends
  • Pass out personalized candy to spread the news
