Decorating a Nursery on a Budget

Flooring

Because much of baby's life is spent on the ground, it is important that you choose something very comfortable, durable, and easy to clean. Flooring options can include hardwood, laminate, tile, carpet, carpet tile, etc. If you are on a tight budget, you will probably not be able to change the flooring the nursery, but you can probably squeeze the budget to allow for a rug that will help tie in the rest of the color scheme.

Because rugs in baby like colors and styles are the hardest to find, you might want to pick this out first and match the rest of the nursery around the rug. Using a rug is a good option because you can clean it fairly easy. It adds comfort to baby's knees when learning to crawl, also.

If you are able to choose the floor in the nursery, a hardwood or laminate floor could be nice to have because they are both very durable, and you can get them much cleaner than carpet or carpet tile. If asthma or allergies are an issue, you might want to consider getting a smooth surface floor.

Carpet tile is a good option for its practicality because if one carpet tile gets stained or damaged, you don't have to replace the entire floor- you can just replace the one tile. It is softer than smooth surface floors. Carpet is nice because it is available in almost any color you can think of. It can be harder to keep clean and if one spot gets damaged, there isn't an easy way to repair it.
